Karin Groenewegen

Karin Groenewegen was born in the Netherlands and, after finishing high school, went to live in the USA for a year. After returning to the Netherlands, she went to Utrecht to study medicine. During this study, she completed several medical internships in Canada and Zimbabwe. After graduating, she first worked for a year in the "internal medicine" department of a Dutch hospital. After that, she worked for a year in a rehabilitation clinic for patients with lung diseases. It was here that she decided to become a pulmonologist.

Karin trained as a pulmonologist at Maastricht University Hospital. During this time, Karin also carried out scientific research and published scientific articles. After completing her training as a pulmonologist, she obtained her doctorate in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. E.F.M. Wouters. The subject of her doctorate was "Acute exacerbations of COPD".

After that, she worked for 1 year as a lung specialist in the northern Netherlands in the city of Groningen, then started at Deventer Hospital. There, she worked for 15 years as part of a team of 6 pulmonologists. During these 15 years, Karin practiced as a pulmonologist in all fields.

At the end of this period, it was the right time for Karin and her husband to embark on a new adventure. They decided to live and work in their beloved France, a country for which Karin had lost her heart since childhood.

In November 2023, Karin started work as a private lung specialist at the Clinique Bonnefon in Alès. Initially, of course, it was a major transition because of the different language and culture. But now it's all starting to sink in. Karin has found her own place as a lung specialist in beautiful France. Karin loves French cuisine, good weather, swimming and, of course, her two adorable cats. Karin speaks French, English and Dutch.
